Another Atlas shrugging…

You wouldn’t normally think of State Farm Insurance as freedom outlaws. But in the face of what Mike Shedlock calls “failed Soviet command economics” in Mississippi, the insurer has chosen to do a rather Outlawish thing – in the sense of putting oneself outside the laws “they” want to force upon us:

State Farm, Mississippi’s largest homeowner insurer, said Wednesday it has had enough of the “untenable” legal and political climate in the state and is suspending writing new homeowners and commercial policies. The company said the suspension would begin Friday and continue until the business climate in the state is more palatable.

And bravo to ’em.

Hey. Lightning! Long time no see…

Your “new” blog looks great – I only say “new” because I remember the old one on BlogSpot. The only bad thing about WordPress.com (as I understand it) is you can’t have your own ads! Oh well.

About the article… I wonder what you think. State Farm is one of the companies partially responsible for making certain kinds of insurance MANDATORY across the country. They make it required to have insurance, with their huge lobbies they can practically bribe the lawmakers to allow THEM to write the insurance laws.

Then, when they’ve successfully altered those laws to their liking, they have the option to just pull out whenever they want? Seems shady to me. Well, more than shady – criminal, even!

Back to another topic – what is going on with TCF? What made Claire decide to leave or sell it or whatever? And what made YOU decide to leave?

    Have a great day!

Hey yourself! If I’m correct, this is “Tim Osman” talking to me here. I saw you’d returned to TCF and been flabbergasted by all the changes there…

I’ll drop you an email soon at your jottit domain. Hope all is well with you! 🙂

By the way, I agree with you about the whole corporate shoving-down-throat crap. But I did applaud State Farm’s decision to pull out of the state, after the state government tried to shove back. Someone’s gotta stand up to the .gov bastards, and a megacorp might be the only entity with the mojo to do it nowadays.

Gotta mention – Jottit isn’t my domain. If you want to contact me, just send me an email at the email I used to send this comment, or send me a PM via TCF (if you’re willing to log in there!)
